Indore: Despite crackdown, quacks continue to do brisk business on the sly

Pithampur: Fake doctors continue to treat unsuspecting patients here in industrial town Pithampur despite heavy crackdown by police and district administration.

On Wednesday, district administration and police team in a joint action raided four places and sealed unauthorised clinics. Police also arrested two fake doctors involved in the illegal business and lodged cases against them for putting lives of thousands of residents of Pithampur and its adjoining areas at stake.

According to information, more than 150 quacks have been operating in all the three sectors of Pithampur. Majority of the fake doctors are running their clinics at Housing colony, Mechanic Nagar and Lodhi Mohalla. These quacks have a large clientele since they charge a very low fee in most cases. The fees are normally even less than Rs 50 for everything, including consultation and medicines and thus attract a good number of low-income factory workers, sources said.

Citizens opined that to rein quack business in the area, administration needed several teams, which can raid different places simultaneously. When contacted, sub-divisional magistrate Bhavya Mittal said that since we came to know about the menace, we have traced their business location and soon carry out raids to nab the culprits.
