Indore: Two senior accountants were duped by a conman and relieved of Rs 4.5 lakh belonging to the company they were employed with.

According to the police, the incident occurred at Axis Bank on Monday morning and the victims were Dinesh Dube and Sawai Singh, both accountants with Modi Coal Private Limited.

The duo had encashed a cheque when a 35-year-old man approached them and told that he had spoken to their employer and wished to talk to them and took them to a neighbouring Royal Diamond Building where his alleged office was located.

The man gave them a cheque of Rs 5.5 lakh and collected Rs 4.5 lakh cash from the duo and sent them up to his alleged office.

While going up, the duo got suspicious but by that time it was too late and the man had vanished with the cash.

The victims were two most experienced and trusted employees of the company and always kept their employer in the loop by phone calls for every action they took and therefore why they failed to do so on Monday is perplexing.

Two more persons were also employed in the fraud and the police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
