Indore: CM reschedules thanksgiving gala to June 5

Indore: A programme organised to thank the city residents for their contribution to Indore Municipal Corporation’s effort in making Indore the cleanest city of the country, was cancelled at the eleventh hour on Wednesday. The thanksgiving and felicitation programme was to be held at Dussehra Maidan on Thursday.  However, this was for the second time the programme has been cancelled due to some internal disagreements over its date and itenary. “The programme was cancelled in view of Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu’s proposed visit to the city on June 5,” said IMC PRO RK Garothiya.

According to sources, Lok Sabha speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan wanted the programme to take place on the World Environment Day falling on June 5. She had even reportedly informed the IMC top brass that she would be inviting Naidu to the city for the occasion, but the IMC seemed to have shown not much interest in the proposal, the sources claimed.  However, Mahajan had the last laugh, as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan directed the IMC to cancel the programme and reschedule it on June 5, after he came to know about the Union minister’s visit to the city on that very day. Following the order by CM, the IMC cancelled the programme and rescheduled it on June 5.

According to the programme schedule set earlier, Chauhan supposed to grace the occasion as chief guest and thank Indoreans as well as felicitate sanitation workers and health officers at Dussehra Maidan. However, following the change in itenary, Naidu will now replace Chauhan as the chief guest, while Mahajan and the CM would be special guests in the programme to be held on June 5. Interestingly, it was the ministry headed by Naidu that had conferred the title of cleanest city on Indore on the basis of Swachh Survekshan-2017.
