Indore: A student of charted accountancy course was arrested on Thursday by city cyber cell for allegedly attempting to reset password of income tax account of a person. The accused said that complainant’s wife asked him to reset the password. The investigation is underway and the other persons involved in the incident are also being identified by the cell officials.
Superintendent of Police (cyber cell) Jitendra Singh said that Vallabh Nagar resident Varun Porwal had lodged a complaint on March 23 that someone is trying to reset his income tax account’s password and a challan of Rs 100 with his name was also submitted by the accused for this.
After taking written complaint, head constable Ramprakash Bajpai was instructed to obtain details regarding the incident. Later, a case under Sections 420, 419, 120-B, 511 of IPC and 43 (A), 66, 66-D, 84-C of IT Act was registered against unidentified persons.
During investigation, it was revealed that accused took help of his friends to reset the password. They had used PAN details of complainant and a challan was also submitted with the name of complainant to reset the password. Later, cell officials detained accused Kuldeep Singh Deval, a resident of Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, and recovered his mobile phone and SIM card for further investigation. He was produced before the court from where he was sent to jail.
Preliminary investigation revealed that four persons were involved in the crime. Complainant’s wife had asked a person to reset the password as she wanted to know the sources of income of her husband. After that, Deval was contacted by that person and was told to do the same. The cell officials are trying to trace other persons involved in the crime.
