Indore: Bypass to get Rs 135 crore upgrade


Indore: Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday sanctioned Rs 135 crore for improving the condition of Indore bypass. Besides this, the minister also sanctioned Rs 122 crore for the construction of 139-km Indore-Jhabua stretch of NH 59.

Gadkari conveyed sanctioning of funds for these projects to local MP and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan during a meeting at latter’s office in Parliament on Monday, said Rajesh Agrawal, representative of Mahajan in city. They also discussed work progress of Dewas-Shivpuri stretch of NH 3 and Indore-Betul National Highway-59-A, he said.

A six-lane flyover will be constructed at MR-10 junction of bypass with Rs 22 crore and a vehicular underpass will be construction at MR-3 junction of bypass with the fund. The flyover will help reduce traffic pressure of the bypass. Similarly, the underpass at MR-3 junction is important as the proposed new Anaj Mandi is to be developed near Truba College. Another vehicular underpass will be built at Bicholi Mardana junction of bypass with the fund.

Service roads will also be developed along the 32-km bypass with an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.  Besides, covered drainage system will be made and street light will be installed on 5 km stretch of the bypass. Altogether Rs 70 crore will be spent for these amenities. Mahajan has been pressing for allocation of funds for these projects since some time, Rajesh Agrawal said.

New Western Rind Road

During the meeting Gadkar and Mahajan have discussed about the proposed Western Ring Road. The road will help to reduce vehicular pressure in the city. Gadkari told Mahajan that a letter will be dispatched to state government for availing land for the purpose.
