Indore: Aimed at combating the rapid outbreak of swine flu in city, now children will be informed about its preventive measures during their morning assembly everyday in school. School administrations will also appeal to the students to spread the message among their peer group to create larger awareness on the deadly disease.

In a meeting with the school and college representatives on Thursday, collector Nishant Warwade directed the schools to organise sessions on prevention of swine flu to create awareness among the children. “Prevention is the only way to fight the deadly disease, as the virus is getting stronger in current climatic conditions,” in charge of Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme, Dr Asha Pandit said.

She said that not only the schools, but the colleges were also appealed to spread awareness among their students, as number of patients tested positive has been increasing at a fast pace.

Lack of virology lab taking toll
Absence of virology lab in city is wreaking havoc on patients as well as the common citizens, as in many cases district health department has received lab reports only after the death of patient. Due to delay in getting the confirmation report, not only targeted treatment of a swine flu patient is getting affected, even the family members too are getting exposed to the deadly virus, as unknown to the infection they perform last rites of the virus affected body without taking any precaution. Dr Pandit said, “Family members should take extra care while performing last rites of the suspected or infected patient as the virus can affect others as well.”
