Indore : As many as 380-tonnene of currency notes, which were printed at Bank Note Press (BNP) Dewas, were transported from city airport to other parts of the country till date. For this purpose transport aircraft of India Air Force, including Globemaster, were used.

To meet the crash crunch following demonetisation, the Central government currency note printing press started printing currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denomination in three shifts from November second week and has transported 380-tonne of notes till January 1, said official sources.

To transport the new notes as many as 20 flights were used, said sources adding that besides IAF transport aircraft, chartered and regular commercial flights were also used for the purpose.

The new currencies were dispatched on alternate days from the city through IAF aircraft. Besides, the new notes were also dispatched through chartered and commercial flights of different airlines regularly, sources informed.

The exercise of dispatching currency notes were carried out under tight security and secrecy. Currency notes were loaded in vans from BNP Dewas under heavy security and were brought to Common User Domestic Cargo Facility Centre located in campus of old terminal building of the airport at wee hours.

IAF aircrafts were also parked closed to old terminal building, so that operation of regular flights were not affected. The notes were dispatched to regional officers of RBI, from where it was distributed banks.
