Decomposed body found in cancer hospital’s waterlogged basement

Indore : Panic like situation prevailed in Government Cancer Hospital on Saturday when decomposed body of a man was found in the basement of the hospital. The body was discovered after some staff complained of foul smell for last two days and had became unbearable on Saturday morning.

According to Sanyogitaganj police, the body was discovered when the hospital staff started checking all areas of the hospital which in the basement.

“The body was identified as of a mentally-challenged man who was roaming in the hospital campus from a long time. We have recovered the body from the basement of the hospital which was waterlogged and sent it for post-mortem,’ sub-inspector Omkarsingh Bhadoriya said.


The deceased might have managed to enter the basement and found it as a suitable place to sleep, he added.

“The body seemed to be around two days old and his head and arms were decomposed. We are investigating on other aspects as well,” the police official said.

Huge amount of money has been sanctioned for the renovation of the hospital and the work has been pending since many years. The main reason for delaying renovation work is waterlogging of its basement and it is weakening the foundation of the building, according to sources in hospital administration.
