Tension in Nanguneri as kin of murdered hotel owner block road


Tirunelveli (TN): Tension pevailed in nearby Nanguneri locality today as relatives of a highway hotel owner who was murdered by a four-member gang late last night blocked road traffic and refused to accept the body, prompting police to make a lathicharge in which five persons were injured. Kombiah, who was running the hotel, at Nanguneri, about 50 km from here, on Tirunelveli-Nagercoil section of the highway was hacked to death by four youths who were armed with sickles. Kombiah with serious head injuries died on the way to the Hospital. Police said Kombiah’s wife Rani was a former councillor of Nanguneri and there was political enmity during the elections.

Relatives of Kombiah blocked the road traffic at Panaankulam and refused to accept the body. As the talks to lift the road blockade failed and the protesters turned violent pelting stones at buses, Police made a lathicharge in which five persons were injured, police said. Further investigation into the murder was on and Police had formed special teams to nab the assailants.
