Bhubaneswar: A senior retired Odisha government officer was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 33 months and was fined Rs 3.03 lakh by a vigilance court here today for amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of his income.
The court of special judge (Vigilance), Bhubaneswar, Bibhu Prasad Routray, while convicting Adawait Prasad Sahu, ordered that in the event of failure to pay the fine, he would undergo RI for four additional months, public prosecutor S K Pati said. Sahu, who was in the Odisha Finance Service, had retired after serving as financial advisor-cum-special secretary in the education department.
Vigilance department, the anti-graft wing of Odisha Police, had conducted simultaneous raids on his rented house, own house and paternal houses in 2006 when he was posted as the Additional Commissioner, Commercial Tax, the PP said.
Sahu was booked by the vigilance wing after it found disproportionate assets to the tune of over Rs 41 lakh, Pati added.
