New Delhi : Punjabi pop and Sufi singer Hansraj Hans (52) from Jalandhar on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of its president Amit Shah, saying he embraced the party as influenced by the revolutionary policies of Prime Minister Modi in the national and public interest.
A Padmashri awardee, Hans, who comes from a Dalit family and who has been also a background singer in many Bollywood movies. He left the Akali Dal in 2014 and then joined the Congress in February this year, only to get disillusioned to disrupt a Dalit outreach programme of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh.
A BJP press release says party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya inducted him to the party in the presence of the party president. Hans said he believes in Modi’s call for “Sabkaa saath, sabkaa vikas” and he will serve the party in whatever tasked assigned to him.
