Laptops, bicycles to improve standard of education?

Jaipur : The manufacturers of laptops and bicycles are vying with each other to bid for the huge number of laptops and bicycles that would be disbursed among students of the state run schools.

The state secondary education department, which is headquartered at Bikaner, will spend Rs 133 crore in buying laptops and bicycles.

The state government will disburse 27,900 laptops worth Rs 50 crores and three lakh bicycles worth Rs 83 crores during the current financial year. The laptops will be disbursed among the meritorious students of secondary and higher secondary who performed well in the 2015-16 state board examinations. The state secondary education department has formulated standards for the laptops and this would be given to the students who are studying in the state run schools. According to a senior official of the secondary education department, the laptops and bicycles will be disbursed to improve the standard of education in these schools.

The state government, with a view to check the drop outs in the girls’ school has decided to give a bicycle to each girl student who joins the eighth standard. Thus bicycles will be given to the meritorious students and girls.

While in Tamil Nadu, the state government is committed to disburse 11 lakh laptops to plus one and plus two students and also engineering and diploma students. The government procures the laptops from state owned Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu that manufactures the laptops. But in Rajasthan, both these items are being purchased from the market. Major electronic manufacturing companies, including a number of MNCs, are vying to get the orders for the laptops. Some Chinese bicycle manufacturers are also in fray to book the huge bicycle orders.
