Moga (Pb): Police today claimed to have busted a gang of dacoits by arresting six of its members including its kingpin, who last month had escaped from a temporary jail set up in the district court complex here.
Some stolen vehicles were recovered from the gang members that also included a woman, police said.
Besides, three pistols and ammunition, two sharp edged weapons were also seized from the accused last evening when they were allegedly planning major strikes in the area, SSP, Kamaljeet Singh Dhillon told reporters here today.
He said the police had acted on a tip off and raided a place here and managed to arrest the six while one of their accomplice escaped.
The SSP said that the kingpin of the dacoits gang, Kirpal Singh alias Pala of Talwandi Bhangerian of Moga district was facing trial for two murder cases including that of an NRI.
Kirpal was one of the six undertrials who had escaped on December 24 from a makeshift jail set up at judicial court complex here after breaking the grill of the window.
The undertrails had been brought here from Faridkot modern jail in connection with different cases registered against them when they had escaped.
While four of the escaped undertrials had been arrested later, Kirpal got back to his criminal activities after his escape from the court complex.
The others gang members have been identified as Baldev Singh, Harpreet Singh, Jagdeep Singh Deepa, Gurwinder Singh Kaleke and the woman member as Harjit Kaur.
SSP said Kaur often used to meet Kirpal Singh when he was in Faridkot jail.
All the gang members were known to each other since long, he said, adding that the arrested dacoits would be produced before a court for seeking police remand.
