Fashion designing student raped by her uncle


New Delhi: A 19-year-old fashion designing student was allegedly raped by her uncle in Chanakypuri area of New Delhi a day before Valentine’s day, police said.

Police have registered a case in this regard on February 19 after victim approached them and a police team has been sent to Lucknow to nab the accused, identified as Sandeep Kohli who is a professional photographer and a businessman there.

The girl, who also hails from Lucknow, had been living in West Patel Nagar area at a rented accommodation and had been studying fashion designing at a reputed private institute situated in south west Delhi’s Mayapuri area.

According to the girl’s statement, Kohli had come to Delhi on February 13 for some personal work. He contacted her and asked her to meet him in the evening.

“Not suspecting anything, she went to meet Kohli who then took her to Delhi Gymkhana Club situated in Chanakyapuri area and allegedly raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she narrated the incident to anybody,” said a police official.

The victim said that for some days, she was in shock and scared but on February 19, she somehow garnered courage and approached police.

Police said that after the victim’s medical examination confirmed rape, they registered a case under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Chanakyapuri police station.

A team has been sent to Lucknow to nab her uncle. The team is conducting raids at his possible hideouts with the assistance of local police. He is said to be a resident of Aliganj area in Lucknow. Further investigations are underway, police said.
