Dispose poetess’s family appeal: U’khand HC to IG


Nainital: Uttarakhand HC today directed the IG (Prisons) to dispose of within 3 weeks a petition submitted by family members of slain poetess Madhumita Shukla, seeking transfer of Amarmani Tripathi from Gorakhpur jail to Haridwar prison on grounds of lenient treatment being meted out to him.

Justice U C Dhyani gave the orders on a writ petition filed by Nidhi Shukla, sister of the murdered poetess, Counsel for the petitioner Virendra Adhikari said.

Main accused in the murder case, Amarmani Tripathi, a Cabinet minister in the erstwhile Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh led by Mulayam Singh Yadav, is currently serving a life sentence.

Nidhi Shukla had submitted an application to the IG prison requesting him to bring back Tripathi to Haridwar jail “on grounds of lenient treatment being meted out to him”.
