New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on said he was delighted to introduce the NITI Aayog, which will emerge as an active and important institution in India’s development journey.
“Delighted to introduce NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog. It will provide key inputs on various policy matters. NITI Aayog will emerge as an active and important institution that will play a pivotal role in India’s development journey in the years to come,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
He said the Aayog has been formed after consulting various stakeholders and will foster a spirit of ‘cooperative federalism’.
“NITI Aayog has been formed after a wide range of consultation with the various stakeholders including the Chief Ministers. A landmark change is the inclusion of all State CMs and LGs of UTs in the NITI Aayog. This will foster a spirit of cooperative federalism,” the Prime Minister added.
Recalling his long stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi said he was aware of the importance of actively consulting the states.
“Having served as a CM in the past, I am very much aware of the importance of actively consulting the states. NITI Aayog does precisely that,” he said.
Hailing the institution as ‘pro-people’, the Prime Minister added that the NITI Aayog will bid farewell to a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
“Through NITI Aayog, we bid farewell to a ‘one size fits all’ approach towards development. The body celebrates India’s diversity and plurality. A pro-people, pro-active and participative development agenda stressing on empowerment and equality is the guiding principle behind NITI Aayog,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi also stressed that through NITI Aayog the government wishes to ensure that every individual can enjoy the fruits of development and aspire to lead a better life.
