The family of a former TV journalist has filed a case on a government hospital in Delhi for medical negligence, which allegedly led to the death of the person. Deepanshu Dubey, a former TV journalist was allegedly asked by hospital staff to bring his own medicines even when he suffered a heart attack. When he went to buy medicines, he died of the heart attack while standing in the queue at pharmacy.
According to a DNA report, Dubey suffered severe chest pains on Friday due to which he went to Delhi government’s Hedgewar Hospital for the treatment. He also asked one of his friends to meet him at the hospital. After a preliminary examination, hospital staff asked him to bring medicines from a pharmacy where he died of the stroke. Dubey’s family will also approach the Delhi Medical Council to look into the matter.
“I am still in a state of shock. As soon as he called me, I rushed to the hospital because I knew of his heart condition. When I got there, three or four doctors were huddled over him, pumping his chest,” Dubey’s friend Anjuman Gusain told DNA. “Some people at the spot, including a cop, told me that he fell while standing in the pharmacy queue. How could the hospital staff ask a patient to go and buy his own medicines?” he added.
Dubey’s last rites were performed in Kanpur on Saturday. He was working in Delhi for the past few decades as a news anchor. In January this year, he turned entrepreneur and started his own news portal. Dubey is survived by his parents, a sister and his widow.
