Indore: Yet one more hearing-and-speech impaired tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh has lodged a police complaint against the director of a hostel in Bhopal for allegedly raping her for six months.

The horror at the hostel unravelled last week after a similarly impaired 20-year-old filed a complaint. Within two days, two other women filed complaints. Director Ashwini Sharma was arrested on Wednesday night under various criminal charges including rape, intimidation and wrongful confinement. “I was kept in custody, made to watch porn films and raped for six months,” the fourth survivor told the police in Indore. She also alleged that she was brutally assaulted when she refused to give in to his demands.

The fourth alleged incident occurred between December 2017 and February 2018, when the woman was staying in the hostel for her studies. So far, four FIRs have been lodged by the police on the basis of separate complaints from four deaf-and-mute women, including two sisters, accusing Sharma of sexually exploiting them.

The opposition Congress has claimed that the hostel was aided by the Madhya Pradesh government’s Social Justice Department and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and a social audit of all such hostels. The Congress has also alleged that Ashwini Sharma – much like Bihar’s child rape accused Brajesh Thakur – is close to the leaders of the ruling BJP. BJP spokesperson Rahul Kothari categorically denied the allegation. “The Congress is playing politics on such a sensitive matter,” he said. State Congress chief Kamal Nath has, meanwhile, shot off a letter to Chouhan, seeking a probe into the matter by the CBI.
