Another committee to research on cow dung


New Delhi : With a stress on scientific validation of “uniqueness of Indian cows,” the Department of Science and Technology has set up a national steering committee headed by its minister Harsh Vardhan to launch a multi-disciplinary research by the government departments and academic institutions on the traditional concoction ”Panchgavya” made from the cow dung.

The idea is to push use of the concoction in agriculture, medicine, nutrition and ”utility products.” There is no scientific study on the ”Panchgavya” made from five cow products – dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee – mixed with three other ingredients – banana, jaggery and tender coconut.

A note circulated by the department on April 25 says the steering committee will guide research to assess the many claimed virtues of the concoction.
