The girl was allegedly raped at a deserted place near Dudu, a suburban town of Jaipur on the night of February 8.

The charge sheet was filed in the court of Munsif Magistrate, Dudu, against the main accused Ajit Singh and eight others– Abdul Wahid, Abrar, Shyoraj, Rajveer Singh, Ravindra, Dharmveer, Ramveer Saran and Ramraj– under sections 376 (D)(gang rape), 366 (kidnapping), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 384 (extortion), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 109 (abetment), 201 (disappearance of evidence of offence) and 212 (harbouring offender) of Indian Penal Code.

Apart from the main accused Ajit, others arrested in the case have also been charged under the stringent section 376 D of IPC pertaining to gang-rape. The section 376(D) under the provisions of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 is explained as, “where a woman is raped by one or more persons constituting a group or acting in furtherance of a common intention, each of those persons shall be deemed to have committed the offence of rape and shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 20 years, but which may extend to life which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life.”

IG Jaipur Range DC Jain said that the main accused Ajit Singh along with another was arrested on February 15 while seven were arrested on February 10. The tourist had come to the city a week before the incident and was visiting Jal Mahal when the main accused lured her on the pretext of taking her to sight-seeing, Jain said.
