Punjab Assembly Elections 2017 Updates: Results, Candidates, Constituency wise

As the Congress looked to win by a landslide in Punjab, AAP was a poor second, barely a few seats ahead of the ruling Akali-BJP combine. Punjab has 117 seats and a party needs 59 to form the government and Congress managed to win 77, which is a clear majority and one of the biggest victories for Congress in recent times.

The first time participants AAP got 22 and the ruling alliance bagged 18 seats, which is their worst performance in quite some time. Captain Amarinder Singh is all set to return to power and become the chief minister of Punjab for the second time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was amongst the first few to call the captain and congratulate him. Mr Singh has said that his first priority would be to fight drugs. “The people of Punjab have given us a big mandate. I have vowed to finish drugs within four weeks.”
