New Delhi: Rejecting rumours that a secret deal had been struck with former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu that he would be projected as the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab after joining the Aam Aadmi Party, AAP core committee member Sanjay Singh on Tuesday said there was no secret or open deal in this regard, and it is wrong to say that the latter is coming on certain conditions or pre-conditions.
“All these secret information are with you people. There is no secret or open deal in this regard. Sidhu is a brave man who has taken a daring decision, but it is wrong to say that he is coming on certain conditions or pre-conditions,” Singh told ANI.
When asked whether the AAP was ready to welcome Sidhu at any cost, despite him attacking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal severely in the past, he said, “There is no cost. The only cost is to save Punjab, doing away with the drug mafia, saving farmers from committing suicide…. You take a note of those things, as we are not concerned about that. When there is a big fight, and when there is a big issue like welfare of Punjab, then it is not necessary to make small personal matters an issue.”
Asked about Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur maintaining that she was still in the BJP and her had resigned from the Rajya Sabha only, the AAP leader said, “I think the picture will be clear very soon, please wait till then. What is happening before that and what reports are coming in, we don’t need to pay much attention to that.
“She is talking about the present situation, because Sidhu has resigned from the RS and the BJP as of now. When the decision about his joining the party (AAP) will be taken, you will be informed about it.
When told about the prevailing doubt about the former BJP MP joining the AAP, he said, “There is no doubt about it. Such doubts are being created. You just wait for the (right) time.”
Asked if Sidhu was with them? “Absolutely,” he replied.
Responding to a statement by Union Minister and daughter-in law of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Harsimrat Kaur that if Sidhu could leave Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister, he could not be faithful to anyone, Singh said, “Parkash Singh Badal Pvt. Ltd. company’s tenure is going to be over in 2017.
The people of Punjab have rejected that Pvt. Ltd. company badly. There is anger among the people because of corruption and drug business, in which his leaders and family members are involved. Besides, there are transport mafia, land mafia, sand mafia and all sorts of mafias are flourishing under the Badal government. And for the same reason, Sidhu took the big decision of leaving the party.”
When asked about Harsimrat’s statement where she dubbed Sidhu as a person “who did not have any mass base and whom the people had rejected was going to the party of opportunists”, the AAP leader said, “Whether he (Sidhu) has a mass base or not, it won’t be decided by Badal Pvt Ltd company; for the decision, you will have to wait for the results of the 2017 assembly elections. And, I can tell you that AAP is going to score a century in the 2017 polls; we will win more than one hundred seats.”
Countering Harsimrat’s jibe at Kejriwal that instead of looking into Delhi’s affairs, where people have given him a mandate, and was looking for becoming the prime minister and installing AAP CMs in other states, Singh said, “Delhi is the best performing state in the country. After independence, no government in the country has worked for the welfare of the people as has been done by Kejriwal, of which we don’t have one but one thousand examples.
“We don’t want a certificate from Harsimarat Kaur, whose government has created a debt burden of Rs.1.35 crores on Punjab, which brought Punjab at the brink where farmers are forced to commit suicide and allowed the drug mafia to flourish and destroy the youth of the state. Thus what Harsimarat Kaur is saying is not important, because today entire Punjab is with the AAP.”
When asked that there were reports that suspended BJP MP Kriti Azad and his wife were also joining the AAP, he said for that also you would have to wait.
