New Delhi: National Human Rights Commission today issued notices to the district authorities of Nagaur in Rajasthan and sought a report over the alleged gangrape of a woman at a police outpost in the district. According to an official statement issued here, the rights panel issued notices to District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Nagaur after it took suo motu cognisance of a media report that a police constable, along with his friend, gangraped a woman at an outpost attached to Maulasar Police Station in Nagaur on the night of June 22.
The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, amount to blatant violation of human rights of the woman by a public servant. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the DM and SP, Nagaur, Rajasthan calling for report in the matter within two weeks, the statement said.
The police constable has been arrested and a case has been registered in the matter. Search is on for his accomplice and further investigation is in progress.
