MCD councillor gets contractor arrested for giving bribe

New Delhi: CBI today arrested a contractor on the charge of trying to bribe a councillor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation for withdrawing her complaint on alleged illegal constructions done by him.

Bhoomi Rachhoya, a first-time councillor from Nangloi Jat West from Congress party, approached CBI with complaint that contractors and builders Tarsem and Dharampal were pressurising her and offering bribe to withdraw her objections on their alleged illegal constructions in the area.

CBI sources said the agency cross-checked her complaint and asked her to call the builders with the money at her home where it had laid a trap.

When Tarsem paid a bribe of Rs one lakh, CBI caught them red-handed along with Dharampal and seized the bribe amount, the sources claimed.

“These people were trying to pressurise me for withdrawing objections against their illegal constructions. We approached many authorities including the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government. It was only on the intervention of Chief Secretary that Municipal Commissioner paid heed to our complaints,” Rachhoya told PTI over phone.

She said finally she had to approach CBI with the complaint which immediately acted.

Rachchoya said CBI officials reached her residence and asked her to call the contractor who was offering bribe. After doing a thorough verification of her complaint, they laid the trap and nabbed one of them who was giving bribe.
