‘JD(U) backing Kejriwal to save country from communal forces’

Varanasi: JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav today said his party was supporting AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is taking on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from here, in order to save the country from communal forces.

Admitting that he was motivated by Kejriwal’s challenge to save the country, Yadav said his party had taken a unanimous decision to extend support to the AAP leader.

“We are motivated by Kejriwal’s challenge to save this country as well as this land of great saint Kabir, Varanasi. For this, we have decided to extend party support to Kejriwal so that this country and the culture of Varanasi may get saved,” Yadav told reporters during his visit to the famous Kabir mutt here.

“BJP has fielded such a candidate from Varanasi seat which is against the culture and tradition of this temple town,” Yadav said, in an obvious reference to Modi.

Accompanied by AAP leader Anand Kumar and other AAP members, Yadav said he would address public in various parts of the city and appeal to them to support Kejriwal as he is the best choice and the need of the hour to save this nation.

However, Yadav made it clear that he was not in support of AAP’s ideologies.

“We do not agree with the ideology of Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party but we are inspired by the challenge which he has taken by contesting from Varanasi seat,” he said.

JD(U) is opposed to both Congress and BJP, and the decision to support Kejriwal was taken after the Varanasi JD(U) unit came out with a proposal to support the AAP leader to which the national leadership endorsed.

JD(U) had walked out of NDA breaking its 17-year-old relationship with BJP in protest against Narendra Modi’s elevation as the campaign committee chief of his party.

On BJP leader Amit Shah’s remark that Azamgarh has become base of terroists, Yadav said Shah himself is canvassing on bail granted to him by the court, “so there is no value of his words”.
