New Delhi: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Friday lambasted Prime Minister Modi for making nothing but excuses for the past 18 months on why economy is collapsing, why farmers not getting their dues and why labourers are crying.

He said the PM’s job is to run the country and not make such excuses. He said: “The Congress won’t let the BJP government act only in the interest of three-four crony capitalist friends.”

“I can’t understand why even the industrialists are shedding tears. They come to us and complain that Modi came to power for them but even they are not getting any help. Modi will certainly cook up another excuse why the industrialists are suffering,” Rahul told reporters after a meeting with the PCC president from various states.

He said he had convened the meeting to get field reports from the ground level in the states to get sense of what the government was doing about the UPA government’s flagship programmes like MNERGA, Right to Food and Tribal Rights laws, so as to build pressure on it to pay attention to the pain of farmers, workers and labourers.

Rahul said he was told that the poor and weaker sections of society are suffering. Farmers are unhappy, committing suicides, labourers are crying and even small businessmen are upset at bleak future.

He said the PCC presidents gave presentations on how Modi, the BJP chief ministers and RSS were disturbing and bypassing the lasts like NREGA and Forest Rights Act and demolishing all programmes made by the Congress for the poor. The Congress will fight against this attack on the poor man’s programmes, he added.
