Doctors term Sunanda Tharoor’s death as unnatural and sudden


New Delhi: A post mortem was conducted on the body of Sunanda Tharoor, the wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor,  on Saturday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

A medical board headed by Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta, Head of the Department for Forensic Medicine conducted the autopsy. , Dr. Adarsh Kumar, Assistant Professor of Forensic Medicine and Dr. Shashank Punia of the Department of Forensic Medicine were the other two who conducted the autopsy.

The panel of doctors said that they found no traces of poison in Sunanda’s body and declared it  a case of unnatural sudden death.

“We will conclude our report in a couple of days. The doctors have recorded all the injuries on the body of Pushkar, and are viewing it as a case of sudden unnatural death. The whole procedure of the post mortem has been videographed and biological samples have been retrieved. The post mortem report will be finalized in a couple of days,” said Dr. Sudhir Gupta.

The details about the injuries on the body of Pushkar were not revealed, but doctors confirmed that there were injury marks on her body.

The body of Pushkar has been taken to the residence of Shashi Tharoor where family members and friends will pay their last respects. The cremation is expected to take place between 4:30 p.m. and 5: 30 p.m. at the Lodhi Road Crematorium.
