For the ones who don’t know what it means, Superfood is a term used to describe foods with much needed large amounts of mineral, vitamins, anti-oxidants and a host of other substances that helps our body fight illnesses and diseases. Superfoods mostly include less mainstream and exotic foods, they are not your usual kitchen finds like garlic, honey, turmeric, etc. Following are a few superfoods that are said to be the favourites among health freaks for 2016:

Teff is said to be the best substitute for any wheat flour based recipe, including pizza bases and waffles. Teff’s starch resistance content makes it a good food for blood sugar management, weight control colon health and vegetarians can use it as a good alternative to eggs.
Say buy to coconut oil, as avocado oil is all set to be its new replacement. The oil is high in monounsaturated oleic acid, a heart healthy fatty acid. This oil can be stored for longer periods of time because of oleic acid which is resistant to oxidation, says Daily Mail.

Mushroom lovers rejoice, as this humble fungi has been crowned as the superfood for 2016. Mushrooms are a rich source of vitamins like D and B, and provide energy by breaking down proteins, carbohydrates and fats, says Daily Mail. And mushrooms can be added in any dish as it is low in cholesterol.
