Shopping is something we all love. How can anyone not love shopping? For some, it is a stress buster, for some its a way to exercise (Yes! Walking with those shopping bags is!) and for some, it is a hobby. Honestly, no other feeling is as beautiful as strolling malls and markets and coming home with a bag full of happiness. No shopping experience is the same and every trip gives you a whole new experience. And what if we tell you Mumbai is hosting a one of its kind of festival along the lines of Dubai Shopping Festival? The state government is organising ‘Mumbai Shopping Festival’ from January 12 to 31, to boost the economy and promote Maharashtra’s culture. We give you five reasons that make ‘Mumbai Shopping Festival’ a must visit.
The 20-day long festival will be launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on January 12 at Jio Gardens in Bandra Kurla Complex and conclude on January 31 at the Gateway of India. The festival is supported by major shopping malls in the city, retail brands, local artists and trader bodies. From groceries to lifestyle products and from automobiles to trendy electronics, the festival will have everything you are looking for from the most popular brands and shopping venues across the city. And if you are a shopaholic there is something you love – ‘crazy discounts’. The malls participating in the festival are High Street Phoenix at Lower Parel, Phoenix Market City at Kurla, Infiniti Mall at Malad, Oberoi Mall at Goregaon, Grand Central at Seawood Navi Mumbai and Viviana Mall at Thane. There will also be discounts at the Taj Mahal Hotels across the city.
To give Mumbaikars a taste of nightlife, the festival will also host night bazaar that allows people to shop until 4 am at special flea-markets at Jio Gardens in BKC (January 13-14 ), Mindspace in Malad (January 19-20) and Hiranandani in Powai (January 26-27). The move comes only weeks after the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Act was amended to allow establishments in Maharashtra to open 24*7.
For foodies, to keep you engaged there will be food trucks on weekends. The food truck zones are set up in association with Food Truck Association of India (TFTA).
January 13-14: Worli Sea Face
January 19-20: Mindspace Malad
January 26-27: Powai
Besides shopping, there will be cultural programmes showcasing Maharashtra’s culture and live performances at various locations such as Crawford Market, Girgaon Chowpatty, Worli Sea Face, Shivaji Park, Carter Road, Colaba Causeway, Fashion Street, Linking Road and Juhu Beach.
Now, this is another reason to go shopping. Shopaholics will get a chance to win exciting prizes such as 100 percent cash back, jewellery, holiday packages, luxury cars and house in Mumbai.
