Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Radhika Apte also open up about such personal experiences
Kudos to the brave actresses who are opening up and speaking out about personal and sensitive issues! Part of an actresses’ round table with film critic Rajeev Masand, the promos of the show have actresses Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Radhika Apte and Alia Bhatt speak with brutal frankness about personal challenges faced.
Sonam shockingly speaks of having been molested when she was younger, describing the experience as “it was very traumatising”. Vidya Balan added to this saying, “It’s not her fault and that is the biggest thing a victim deals with.”
Radhika Apte reveals how she “started questioning morality” after intimate scenes from her film Parched had leaked online. While Anushka Sharma recounted her mother repeatedly asking if she had been touched inappropriately, Alia Bhatt cryptically added, “We live in a bubble. Our reality is not reality.”
It may be recalled that in 2014 Kalki Koechlin had come out to speak up against the sexual abuse she had suffered as a child. “For me, it’s not a one day headline; it’s something that’s a reality I have lived with for a long time,” Kalki had chillingly revealed. “Many of us have gone through it and most of the people that I know, especially close friends of mine who are women, have gone through some form of CSA (child sexual abuse). It’s just so out there, so much of it that I think it’s not something that should be ignored.”
