Ganesh Chaturthi is, inarguably, the most revered festival in Maharashtra, and is celebrated with grandeur. This festival is held in honour of Lord Ganesha, who is worshiped for 11 days (this year 12 days). Each and every day of this festival has its own meaning and is dutifully celebrated with pomp and show. And Bollywood stars celebrate the Ganesh festival with traditional fervour. Let’s take a look.
‘Dabbang’ Khan proves it that when you are devoted from the heart, religion doesn’t matter. His mother Salma Khan, was initially a Maharashtrian who converted to Islam after marrying Salim Khan. They have raised their childeren with such religious values that the whole Khan family celebrates all festivals with great zest and zeal. Salman Khan, brings Bappa home every year without fail, a practice that he has been continuing since the last 12 years. According to a report, Salman also stated that it was his sister Arpita Khan who insisted that the family should celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. The idol is kept at the actor’s Bandra residence. The entire Khan household and many other Bollywood celebrities flock to the actor’s house at Galaxy Apartments to take the blessings of the Lord during the one-and-a-half days that they keep the idol. This year too, the actor would be bringing home the Elephant God with great pomp and show.
This is one of the biggest Ganpati celebrations among all the Bollywood families. The whole Kapoor khandan gathers under one roof to welcome the Elephant Lord. The festival trend was started by the legendary Raj Kapoor, recalled Neetu Singh, Ranbir Kapoor’s mother. Ranbir and his family celebrate the festival with aplomb.
Shraddha Kapoor along with father Shakti Kapoor and brother Siddhant Kapoor also welcomed Bappa to their house this year with full enthusiasm. They posted pictured with the lord yesterday and we saw them perform puja too. The actress and her brother will be seen together for the first time on screen in their new movie ‘Haseena’.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra
Actress Shilpa Shetty, who has given her own flavour to the festival this year, with environment-friendly celebration. As kids Shipa, would visit all the big pandals at night with the Shetty family and we that led to her love for this festival. Shilpa Shetty Kundra and husband Raj Kundra, who despite having no connection with Maharashtra and its culture bring home the idol of Ganesha with utmost fervour. They keep the idol at their home for a period of one and a half days. Shilpa, along with husband Raj, has been bringing the idol home for some years now.
Actor Vivek Oberoi says that he likes the traditions associated with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and loves to meet relatives and friends and celebrate with them. Vivek feels it’s only due to Lord Ganesha that there is peace of mind and prosperity in his life, both professionally and personally. He also said that his facicnation with the festival has been since childhood as he used to the Juhu beach to watch the huge Ganpati idols being immersed in the sea.
Ardent followers of the elephant deity, Jeetendra and his family religiously celebrate the festival every year. Jeetendra is joined by his children actor Tushaar Kapoor and TV producer Ekta Kapoor for the puja. He also visits his old house in Girgaon, where he used to reside before knowing success, to do the first puja.
Hrithik Roshan might find it difficult to step out of his Juhu residence on a normal day, but he and his family mingle with the crowds at Juhu during the Ganpati celebrations. The Mohenjo Daro star is an ardent spiritual follower of Vigneshwar (an avatar of Lord Ganesha) and surprisingly, he has no qualms being photographed as he performs visarjan. The actor brings home a small Ganesh idol and celebrates the festival with close friends and family. They all join him at his bachelor pad in Juhu.
His puja, however is a low key affair. Only his wife Sunitha and children- son Yashvardhan Ahuja and daughter Tina Ahuja and chosen family members and close friends participate in the celebrations.
