The usual suspects can be relied on, as usual, to strip Yuletide of the sacred and showcase the secular; which has become, now that I think about it; a euphemism like “patriarchy” is a cover for wickedness. Unsurprisingly then, Office Christmas Party is a “comedy” of errors (not that its characters view substance abuse/violence/sexcapades as transgressions).

At least, Jennifer Aniston is at her spiteful best as CEO Carol Vanstone who wants to finito her party animal brother (T J Miller) Clay’s branch, and he and buddies led by CTO Josh Parker (Jason Bateman) figure wrangling a deal with potential partner Walter (Courtney B Vance) at an epic shindig might keep them in the saddle.
But then, no surprise, the titular event spirals out of control, and everything is up for grabs, and laughs. Even when it’s crystal clear that the characters, at least, those involved in carefully contrived mishaps, may not be OK.

As Queen Victoria famously said, we are not amused. The cast though, overall, is watchable. Especially the delectable Ms Aniston in the not-so-palatable role of a Horrible Boss cum female Scrooge who’s forgotten how to be happy. Oh Carol!! Oh gentle reader! Skip this boisterous ribaldry, and you wouldn’t miss a thing.
