After launching singers, technicians and art designers who have gone on to create a mark for themselves in the Indian film industry, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will now launch costume designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula with his ambitious next – Padmavati.

The filmmaker, who is known for his larger-than-life canvases and for capturing paintings on celluloid, is going all out to ensure that his next magnum opus, proves to be a visual delight, for audiences across the country and the world over. Known for his innate sense of aesthetics, the director is now all set to launch designer-duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula, known for their research oriented creations that are deeply entrenched in antique textiles and techniques. While the designers are already well known in the industry circle, this will be the first time that they use their expertise in a film.

Since the two are connoisseurs of historic art and design, collecting ancient textiles through their explorations across the globe, Sanjay Leela Bhansali recognized the immense potential in the designers and has taken them under his wing. Rimple and Harpreet are working on looks that have Turkic influences as well as the ones renowned in the 13th century in Chittor. In fact, the designers have decided to take time out from their regular commercial opportunities and focus their energies in bringing to life Bhansali’s vision for the film.

Says Harpreet, “Working in tandem with Mr. Bhansali’s vision we have gone through a vast library of reference material, old documents and manuscripts as well as ancient traveler’s accounts to come up with the looks. It has been an intensive and exhaustive process yet creatively very fulfilling as designers. Mr. Bhansali is known for his keen eye for detail, the visuals he creates on the big screen are larger than life.”
