Irrfan Khan, who is known for his splendid performances, has always been ahead in promoting good content movies. He has aced the knack of selecting phenomenal content and has now come forward in promoting regional cinema.
At a preview theatre in suburban Mumbai, Irrfan held a screening of the movie SAIRAT which is a story on a searing reflection of caste discrimination for his near and dear ones.
SAIRAT directed by Nagraj Manjule is one movie that has broken all the records and set new standards for regional cinema. According to Irrfan, regional cinema needs to reach out to the masses and he feels more movies like these should be made and promoted on a great extent. Irrfan decimated the screening by inviting the younger generation as he wanted the youth to see the good content being produced in India.
Also present at the screening were Tigmanshu Dhulia, Gulshan Devaiah and Deepta Mehta. Irrfan made an entrance with his entire family including his wife Sutupa and his sons Babil and Ayaan. Irrfan was quoted saying at the screening, “Every year regional cinema is adding a feather in its cap and undoubtedly this year it’s SAIRAT. I was moved to see the Marathi ‘Romeo And Juliet’ and truly believe that our teenagers should see the movie, who are exposed mostly to western cinema because this is the phase of new Indian cinema which is bound to become universal and world cinema.”
