It has become a tradition of sort for the actors while promoting their films to portray themselves romantically off-screen, and then coyly brush aside the chemistry as ‘rumours’. Be it Alia Bhatt-Arjun Kapoor before 2 States or Sonakshi Sinha-Arjun Kapoor before Tevar, actors try to show off their filmy chemistry during film promotions but deny outright when asked if they’re going around. Same thing happened during Kriti Sanon-Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer Raabta’s trailer launch.
The oh-so-comfortable duo refuted the rumours of them going around. Actually, the rumour mills were abuzz with the news that the couple has already broken up. “Chemistry is chemistry. We both are engineers, and from Delhi. So we have a lot of things to talk about. That’s it,” Sushant said when asked about his chemistry with Kriti. “I truly believe that when you meet some people you usually connect with them much more than you connect with the others. You tend to have long conversations without even knowing each other. The first time I met Sushant was for the narration of the film. But by the third take something happened and we started completing each other’s sentences,” Kriti said.
Sushant is known for his dedication towards the characters he plays. Be it Byomkesh Bakshi or MS Dhoni, the actor always tried to fit into the skin of the characters. But Raabta gave him a chance to be himself. “I have had very few opportunities in my life to behave like my character Shiv (lead character of Raabta). Mostly when I am out with my friends that’s the time I behave like Shiv. I like to behave like that and be an interesting person. Here was an opportunity to be myself for seven months at a stretch and I was also being paid for it!” quipped Sushant.
Kriti added, “I used to tell him you are behaving like Shiv and he used to refute it. But in reality Sushant is exactly like Shiv, it’s been a while since we finished shooting and he still behaves like Shiv. Reacting in the same way to ice-cream, chocolates and little babies – like a wide eye doe.”
Kriti will be seen playing two characters named Saira and Saiba in the film which revolves around reincarnation. “It’s very interesting as I can relate to Saira so closely since she is a girl from present time, I also enjoyed essaying Saiba’s character, which is from a historic era,” she added.
Fair and strong
Recently, the few topics like the endorsing fairness cream and the rampant nepotism in the industry have put the stars under a spotlight. Reacting to the topic of nepotism debate he said, “I think nepotism can co-exist with the idea of encouraging new talent from outside of the film industry. I, being an outsider, got the opportunity and luxury of choices to choose the film that I wanted to do. So I have no complaints. But having said that, if new talents won’t get a chance, and only the practice of nepotism continues, then the industry will collapse in some time.”
He also gave a piece of his mind to the raging fairness creams controversy. “As an actor or even as a responsible citizen, we should not, in any way, endorse one particular skin tone over another,” he said.
And a controversy
Things got a bit out of hand when Sushant had a tiff with a senior journalist during the launch. It happened when he declined to comment on a death sentence awarded to Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav by the Pakistan government, saying that one needed to be “well informed” to comment on a “sensitive” issue such as this. When a journalist insisted, saying that the actor should have an opinion since the issue was of national importance, Rajput replied testily, “Why is it so wrong? Should I ask you a few questions related to national interest? Would you know all the answers?”
The reporter told the team that she didn’t have to respond to Rajput’s question since she was not a public figure. “It is nowhere written that a public figure should know everything,” the actor retorted.
It was unexpected but happy news for all Deepika Padukone fans as the Raabta director Dinesh Vijan divulged that she will be performing in the recreated version of the track Raabta, from Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer ‘Agent Vinod.’ “Deepika Padukone is very lucky for me,” Vijan said adding, “I asked her, if she could do a song for me. She came down to Budapest and we shot it.”
