An interesting plot, two actions heroes, a beauty and loads and loads of action sequences. What more could you ask for? DISHOOM has all the ingredients to make a perfect potboiler.
During a promotional event of the film, Varun Dhawan said, “Yes, it is a thriller, packed with action and adventure, one that does not take the audience’s intelligence for granted.”
The film, also starring John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandes and Nargis Fakhri, will see the comeback of actor Akshaye Khanna as the villain who makes the two cops, Kabir Shergill (Abraham) and Junaid Ansari (Dhawan) chase the prize.
The film also highlights other issues — of match fixing, and how bookies have no country or religion except, that of money. Playing a rookie cop based out of Dubai, his character proudly supports ‘Modiji’, because according to him, “he is the most popular Indian Prime Minister, especially with the NRIs”.
Varun Dhawan is the only actor from his generation who has had a consistent run at the Box office. After DILWALE, it was speculated that Varun Dhawan wouldn’t do any two hero projects as all of his films have been solo hits till date. From BADLAPUR, HUMPTY SHARMI KI DULHANIYA, MAIN TERA HERO to ABCD 2, all the films have had a successful run at the Box office with Varun being the solo lead.
Clearing his stand on two her projects, Varun said, “I haven’t said that. Just because I am doing a solo-hero film in ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ and have not signed any films after Dishoom, people are assuming that. I am on the lookout for other scripts. Let’s see if something interesting turns up but I am not against two-hero projects. The film and story matter. Two and three heroes are just titles we give. The audience goes to see the film for the film. They don’t say, ‘Arre, yeh bhi hai toh main kyun dekhoon? I want to work with good, disciplined actors who are passionate about filmmaking.”
