Behind Bollywood Dreams! Akshay Kumar’s journey from waiter to superstar is pure ‘GOLD’


Bollywood’s ultimate Khiladi Akshay Kumar is all set to give Independence treat to his fans with the upcoming film, Gold. Well, Akshay Kumar has made his stronghold in Bollywood with his many successful films like Khiladi (1992), Waqt Hamara Hai (1993), Yeh Dillagi (1994), Mohra (1994), Hera Pheri (2000), Airlift (2016) and so on.

We all know that Akshay has reached to the level of success with his hard work and dedication towards his passion of acting in films. Born as Rajiv Bhatia, Akshay did a lot of struggle to enter in this film industry.

Akshay’s full name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia who was born and brought up in Amritsar in a typical Punjabi household. Akshay completed his schooling in Delhi after which he moved to Mumbai to complete his higher studies. However, Akshay left studies mid-way and went to Bangkok to learn martial arts. In Bangkok, Akshay faced a lot of financial crises, hence, he worked as a waiter and chef while learning the combat sport, Muay Thai. Akshay learned martial arts’ forms so efficiently that he returned to the country with a Black belt in Taekwondo.

Sadly, despite getting a black belt in Taekwondo, Akshay had to face a financial crunch in India too. In Calcutta, Akshay worked as a peon for a year. Akshay worked as a salesman for six months in Dhaka and jewellery trader in Delhi. Later, Akshay finally got a direction for his career, as he started teaching martial arts to school children in Mumbai.

Interestingly, one of his student’s father asked him to do modelling. Then what, Akshay did a photo shoot for which he got remuneration. Since then, Akshay started getting monthly remuneration for his modelling assignments. After becoming a popular model, Akshay got his first call for an ad shoot, however, he missed a flight and everything changed. Hence, due to missed golden opportunity, he started dropping his pictures in the offices of well-known producers and directors.

And one evening, producer Pramod Chakravarty signed Akshay Kumar for a lead role for the film, Deedar. However, 1991’s Saugandh marked as a debut film of Akshay Kumar which turned out to be an average grosser of the year. From the very first film, Akshay didn’t look back and started giving hit films like Khiladi, Waqt Hamara Hai, Yeh Dillagi, Mohra and so on.

Interestingly, until 2018, Akshay has worked in around 100 films in which many of the films are super hit. In personal life, Akshay got married to Rajesh Khanna’s daughter Twinkle Khanna. The duo has a son Aarav and daughter Nitara.

On the work front, Akshay’s upcoming Gold also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Sunny Kaushal and others. Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold is releasing on August 15, 2018.
