At home with the birthday girl – Alia Bhatt

The celebrations have already kicked in for the peppy, lovely Alia Bhatt. What with her relationship with Sidharth Malhotra also going great guns, her birthday today promises to be extra special. It is known that Alia’s own apartment which she shifted into with sister Shaheen, will be the party venue. Her close friends had evidently been doing the planning for the Bollywood themed party as our birthday girl was far too busy with film promotions.

A stone’s throw away from her parents Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan’s home, Alia has been excitedly sharing details about her new pad, the interiors of which have been designed in the style of a New York loft – cozy and not too modern. Revealing more about her new home, she declares that while the walls are exposed brick, the windows are boxy.

On her wish-list of acquisitions is a retro Smeg fridge and neon signs for the wall. The vibe is cool – clearly the ideal spot for her close friends to chill and have a good time. For those keen to copy elements of Alia’s home, you might want to get in touch with her interior designer Richa Bahl, who is the wife of QUEEN and SHAANDAAR director Vikas Bahl. Richa, incidentally, has already designed her husband’s other heroine, Kangana Ranaut’s spacious home.

Coming back to Alia and her birthday gift to herself – her lovely new home – there’s one person who’s going to be experiencing mixed feelings on this special day… Dad Mahesh Bhatt, of course. When word had broken of Alia’s move into her own place, he had mused that every parent has to go through this inevitable curve once in their lifetime. He had added that when his daughter told him that she was a big girl now and needed her own space, he had to respect her decision. “I have always admired her ability to walk on her own two feet. Alia is a self-made individual and there is nothing more gratifying for parents than to see their child grow on her own.”
All grown up at 23 and with the world at her feet, Alia Bhatt is indeed a thing of pride and joy. With films like HIGHWAY, 2 STATES, HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA in her pocket, she admits that she has become more confident about her craft but is not over-confident. She believes that a touch of nervousness and unsureness is essential as it helps take you a long way. Keeping her grounded, are her family and friends who form a good support system and tell the truth as it is.

“If you are surrounded by people who keep telling you that you are great, then you will go crazy. If my family and friends don’t like anything about my work, they tell me. It is important to have honest opinion around yourself,” she pointed out recently. She likes the fact that despite being famous and being hounded by fans for autographs and selfies, she remains a normal human being to her family.
With her years in the industry, experience has made her wiser even if it has come with the loss of innocence. She confesses to being very unaware earlier which is no longer the case today; a situation that she terms “good or bad also in some ways”. She realises that she has to take her words seriously, speak responsibly and behave like a good role model – her stature today demands it. Li’l Miss Perfect is something she will thankfully never be though, as she wants to allow herself the liberty to make mistakes, to feel bad and cry.
With three big films coming up – Karan Johar’s KAPOOR AND SONS, Gauri Shinde’s next opposite Shah Rukh Khan and UDTA PUNJAB alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, life couldn’t get better for Alia Bhatt. …All that and love too!
