7 things you must know about EDM sensation The Chainsmokers

Tonight, EDM duo sensations DJs Drew Taggert and Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers are performing in Mumbai today, September 7, as part of the Road to Ultra Music Festival. This is not the first time the duo are visiting India. The last time was in 2014 for the Sunburn Fest in Goa. They have quickly become a household name with their commercially hit singles ‘Closer’ and ‘Paris’. The duo has also collaborated with Halsey and Coldplay and earned duo critical acclaim.

The Chainsmokers – Priyanka Chopra collaboration
Long before The Chainsmokers received their Grammy award and Priyanka Chopra became popular in the US, the EDM duo and the gorgeous diva collaborated on ‘Erase’ (2012) and ‘Rookie’ (2013). Both the songs feature Priyanka’s vocals.

‘Selfie’ is not their favourite
The song ‘Selfie’ which was a ladder to their successful career is not the duo’s favourite song. The song made fun of the selfie obsessed people and the millennial generation. In an interview, Pall was quoted saying, “It taught us so much about the music business and ourselves — what type of artists we wanted to be.”

Mark on the fashion industry
The duo assisted NYC-based fashion line ‘Our Thing’ with the creative design. Starting in Autumn 2017, the duo will partner with Tommy Hilfiger.

Forbes’ ‘30 under 30’
Drew Taggart was featured in Forbes 2017 list of ‘30 under 30’. He shares the list with singer ‘Daya’ who is featured in The Chainsmokers’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down’.

How they met
In 2012, The Chainsmokers comprised of Alex Pall and DJ Thett Bixler. Soon Bixler departed and their manager Adam Alpert was asked to find a replacement. One of his assistants got in touch with DJ Drew Taggert and informed him about the vacancy.

Record view in a day
Soon after they created Billboard records, they moved to make YouTube records. The Chainsmokers’ song ‘Something Just Like This’ in collaboration with Coldplay created a record with 9 million views in a single day. It broke Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean’ record that had 8.2 million views in a day.

Billboard chart records
The 2016 single ‘Closer’ featuring Halsey released as part of the Collage EP set a record for spending most weeks on the Billboard list. In 2016, as per Capital FM ‘Closer’ was the third biggest single with 21,24,000 units sold.
