Over the past couple of months, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmavati now titled Padmaavat has been making headlines. Though the film, found itself in the eye of a storm with various fringe groups taking an objection to it, matters worsened when even state governments decided to ban its release. However, now after multiple apologies, cuts, amendments and assurances from the filmmaker and producers, the Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer is all set to hit screens on January 25. But even before Padmaavat releases, we decided to take a look at the box office capability of the film and couldn’t help but notice that Padmaavat might just turn out to be Ranveer Singh’s highest opening day grosser till date, and here’s why.
1. Hype around the film:
Given the fact that the release date of Padmaavat has been subject to change over the past few months, a final release date that was announced has given the audiences hope that the film will in fact finally see the light of day. But more importantly, the blitz of media coverage Padmaavat has received since December last year has only developed a feeling of anxiousness among the general audiences who now want to know what the entire hullabaloo was about. Now given this heightened level of anxiety coupled with the fact that a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film usually comes with not just a brilliant story line but also stellar production value, Padmaavat is certain to open with a bang at the box office.
2. Solo release:
Though the promotions of the film have been taken care of by the media, Padmaavat initially faced competition with the Akshay Kumar starrer Pad Man that was slated to hit screens on the same day. However, a last minute intervention by Bollywood’s Khiladi Kumar ensured that Padmaavat enjoys a solo release. Thanks to this, Padmaavat now enjoys a solo release enabling the film to capitalize on an undivided market share. Besides this, given the fact that previous releases are all but gone, Padmaavat also enjoys the advantage of maximizing the number of shows it can feature in at multiplexes.
3. Undivided screen count:
With Pad Man shifting its release to February 9, another factor that works in favour of Padmaavat is the number of screens the makers of the film will have at their disposal. With no other big release and previous releases fading fast, Padmaavat looks all set to enjoy a massive release with the total screen count within the country being undivided. In fact, history has proved that big ticket releases that have ensured a wide enough release have always worked well at the box office. Simply put, more screens = more revenue.
4. Holiday weekend:
Another factor that ensures a big opening for Padmaavat at the box office is the fact that the film enjoys a holiday weekend release. Scheduled to hit screens on January 25, the film will enjoy an extended weekend of four days enabling the film to maximise its box office take. This coupled with the fact that it will be a solo release; Padmaavat not only will be the audiences’ first choice but will also be the only film playing in theatres.
5. Dearth of good films:
The last big ticket Bollywood entertainer to hit screens was the Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai that released in December. Since then there have been multiple releases, however, almost all have been small-budget off-beat films. This literal dearth of big ticket releases has certainly left the audience with an unsatisfied hunger for an entertainer. Now with Padmaavat hitting screens, the audiences have been promised value for their money along with quality entertainment.
6. Stellar performance:
Last but by no means the least are the performances that are expected from the actors. While Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor have over time proved their mettle, Ranveer Singh’s never ending energy and his brilliant acting skills have ensured an ardent fan following. If that wasn’t all, going by the first look of the film and the glimpses of the characters from the promos and teasers that have released since, the audiences are awaiting the release of the film with bated breath. While Ranveer Singh might just have played his darkest character yet, knowing the actor’s dedication, it isn’t a far cry to say that Ranveer as Allauddin Khilji will be worth watching on the big screen.
