49 Years of Amitabh Bachchan: 5 intriguing facts about Big B’s first film, ‘Saat Hindustani’

Today, Shehenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan completes 49 years in Bollywood. Big B made his Bollywood debut in 1969’s black and white film, Saat Hindustani. Director K A Abbas had chosen Amitabh Bachchan for one of the roles of seven protagonists in the film.

On this special day, Amitabh wrote a poem in his blog of which he shared a link on his Twitter handle. He wrote, “My poem I wrote for my Blog .. now have recited it .. ”.


He also shared one more tweet in which he said, “T 2615 – 49 years ago I came to the city of dreams and signed my first film .. ‘Saat Hindustani’ on Feb 15, 1969 ..(sic)”.

Interestingly, Big B’s debut in Bollywood was not less than a film story as he got a film luckily. There are a lot of interesting things which you need to know if you are a die-hard Big B fan.

So, let’s take a look at 5 unknown facts about Amitabh Bachchan’s first film, Saat Hindustani:

  1. Tinnu Anand was signed to play one of the seven protagonists in the film. But after Tinnu Anand left the project, director K A Abbas replaced his role with a newcomer Amitabh Bachchan.
  2. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan won the National Award for the Most Promising Newcomer for Saat Hindustani.
  3. Amitabh Bachchan’s character was named after his friend and co-star Anwar Ali.
  4. Nina Singh was the original female lead for Saat Hindustani, however, Neena went to Delhi and did not turn up for the shooting in Goa. Later, she was replaced with Shahnaz (Jalal Agha’s daughter and future wife of Tinnu Anand).
  5. Surprisingly, Amitabh Bachchan was paid Rs 5,000 for his first role. At that time, Tinnu Anand made the negotiations with Amitabh Bachchan and informed Amitabh that this would be his full salary whether the film took one year or five to make.
