Govt announces list of first 20 Smart Cities

Two cities from Maharashtra feature in the first batch of 20 cities.

The Urban Development Development Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, today announced the first list of selected 20 Smart Cities under the Central government’s ambitious ‘100 Smart Cities Mission’.

However, the urban development ministry had received proposals from just 97 smart cities – select states like Jammu & Kashmir failed to nominate their city.


The frist batch of smart cities include the following cities

1. Odisha
2. Pune
3. Jaipur
4. Suart
5. Kochi
6. Ahemdabad
7. Jabalpur
8. Visakapatnam
9. Solapur
10. Devnagri, Karnataka
11. Indore
12. New Delhi Muncipal Corporation
13. Coimbatore
14. Kakinada
15. Belgaum
16. Udaipur
17. Guwahati
18. Chennai
19. Ludhiana
20. Bhopal

The remaining cities will now start preparing and will be eligible for the next round of selection in 2017.
