    Mumbai: A Mumbai court today awarded death sentence to Tahir Merchant and Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan and life imprisonment to extradited gangster Abu Salem in the 1993 serial blasts case. Besides Salem, the court also sentenced Karimullah Khan to life imprisonment in the case while awarding 10 years’ sentence to the fifth convict, Riyaz Siddiqui.

    Shah family from Surat was struck by tragedy on September 2 when their 14-month old son Somnath Shah slipped and fell down the stairs while playing with his four-year-old sister. He was rushed to a private hospital but was advised to take him to the New Civil Hospital. A city scan revealed that the toddler has undergone multiple fractures and a brain hemorrhage. The next day he was declared brain dead.
