    Mumbai: Bollywood personalities like Shekhar Kapur, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar have condemned the death of senior Kannada journalist and social activist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead at her residence by unidentified men on Tuesday. Celebrities not only condemned Lankesh’s murder, but also the unsolved murder of three other outspoken critics of right-wing extremist ideology — M.M. Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar.

    Melbourne: The Hindu community in Australia has demanded the withdrawal of an advertisement which features Lord Ganesha and other divinities promoting consumption of lamb meat. According to a media report, the advertisement released yesterday by the Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has already been referred to Australian Standards Bureau. Other divinities shown in the commercial included Jesus, Buddha, Thor and Zeus, sitting around a dining table tucking into lamb at a barbecue.

    Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Union of Journalists on Tuesday expressed shock and anger at the dastardly killing of veteran Kannada journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru this evening.     New Delhi, The board of Connaught Plaza Restaurant, the 50:50 joint venture between McDonald’s India and its estranged partner Vikram Bakshi, will meet tomorrow amid uncertainty over the fate of 169 outlets of the fast food chain run by it. McDonald’s India, which had cancelled license agreement with CPRL last month, said the termination notice period ends today after which the franchisee is not “authorised to use the McDonald’s system and its intellectual property”.

    Miami: Hurricane Irma intensified into a Category 5 hurricane on Tuesday as it headed toward the Lesser Antilles, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
