  • US House passes bill on defence co-operation with India

    Washington: The US House of Representatives has passed a USD 621.5 billion defence expenditure bill that proposes to advance defence cooperation with India. An amendment in this regard, moved by Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera, was adopted by a voice vote by the House as part of the National Defense Authorisation Act (NDAA) 2018, beginning October 1 this year. NDAA-2018 was passed by the House 344-81.

    Washington: US forces killed the leader of the Islamic State group’s Afghanistan branch in a raid earlier this week in the northeastern province of Kunar, the Pentagon said today. “US forces killed Abu Sayed, the emir of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria — Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) — in a strike on the group’s headquarters in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, July 11,” Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement.

    Ujjain: Thieves taking advantage of heavy rains on Thursday night, reportedly targeted six shops in Freeganj area and two shops at Sanwer Road area. The thieves did not break locks of any shop in Freeganj area, rather, made their entry through roof tops of shops.
    The area targeted by the thieves have dilapidated houses which the thieves used as a route as to enter the shops. Grills were removed to make an entry.
