    Leh: Thousands of Tibetans on Thursday morning joined in the 82nd birthday celebrations of their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here.  Large crowds donning traditional dresses began to assemble since morning at the Shiwatsel Phodrang complex on the outskirts of Leh for the birthday celebrations.

    New Delhi: The Opposition parties will meet on July 11 to discuss the upcoming Vice Presidential elections. The Election Commission, earlier on July 4, issued a notification to file nominations for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, slated to be held on August 6. The Election Commission has fixed July 18 as the last date for making nominations, while July 19 will be the date for the security of nominations.

    Bengaluru: To prevent impersonation fraud, Microsoft has integrated its “Made for India” Skype Lite app with Aadhaar, thereby allowing users of the app to verify the caller’s identity online. Aadhaar is considered to be the world’s largest national identification number project and allows users in India to communicate with government, business, and others with a higher level of trust and lower potential for fraud.

    New Delhi: In what may come as a major relief for Subrata Paul, the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) has revoked the provisional suspension on the Arjuna Awardee footballer, by letting him off with just a warning in regards to breach of anti-doping rule earlier this year. The 30-year-old was provisionally suspended after failing a dope test, which was collected on March 18 during out-of-competition in Mumbai.

    Los Angeles: The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued an excessive heat warning in California, predicting the region could face a new record high temperature this week. “An upper level high pressure system centred over the desert southwest will continue to strengthen and expand westward through Saturday,” the NWS said on Wednesday. “This will bring widespread triple digit heat to interior sections through at least Saturday with advisory heat starting on Thursday.”

    Mumbai: In an interesting turn of events, the Bangur Nagar police recently held a chain snatcher from Tamil Nadu, whose identity was revealed by his Facebook account. The chain-snatching victim had managed to get hold of the snatcher’s mobile phone which in turn helped the police get details of the suspect from his social media account. The chain snatcher has been identified as Shailendra Karpaswami Konar, 28, a native of Tamil Nadu.
