  • Tata Sons to hike AirAsia India stake to 49%

    New Delhi: Tata Sons will hike its stake in AirAsia India to 49 per cent by acquiring additional shares from Arun Bhatia’s Telestra, which will be exiting the no-frills airline. Telestra Tradeplace holds nearly 10 per cent stake in the low-cost airline. While Tata Sons would buy 7.94 per cent shareholding, the remaining stake would be purchased by the carrier’s two directors — S Ramadorai and R Venkataramanan, in their individual capacity.

    New Delhi: Drug major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has entered into a US licensing pact with XenoPort for the development and commercialisation of latter’s clinical-stage oral new chemical entity XP23829. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories will pay an upfront fee of USD 50 million (Rs 335 crore) to XenoPort and up to USD 440 million (Rs 2,935 crore) on achievement of certain milestones.

    New Delhi: Blown away by Virat Kohli’s power-packed knock that took India into the World Twenty20 semifinals, former captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that the marauding right-hander is currently the world’s best batsman and “beyond phenomenal”. Kohli’s unbeaten 82-run effort was the highlight as India chased down 161 in a tense group encounter against Australia in Mohali to enter the last-four stage. The hosts will take on West Indies on March 31 in Mumbai.

  • Rockets fired at Afghan parliament

    Kabul: A huge explosion took place on Monday as a rocket landed near the Afghan parliament building, a media report said. The blast took place when senior security officials were on way towards the building to brief lawmakers, Khaama Press reported. “Some three rockets landed near new parliament building around 10.15 a.m. (local time). At least one rocket struck the building’s yard, sending up a black smoke in the air,” Xinhua news agency
