    HC issues notice to Centre, IB on Greenpeace activist’s plea

    New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today sought response of the Centre on the plea of Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai against her “offloading” from a flight to London at the Delhi airport. Justice Rajiv Shakdher also issued notice to IB and Immigration Department seeking their responses on Pillai’s plea terming the “offloading” act as illegal and a violation of her basic rights to personal liberty and freedom of speech.

    India ranked world’s 128th in economic freedom

    Washington: With an economic freedom score of 54.6 out of 100, India has been ranked 128th freest economy in the 2015 Index of Economic Freedom evaluating economic conditions and government policies in 186 countries. The annual report by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington think tank, in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal, ranks India 26th out of 41 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

    Rupee down 10 paise against dollar in early trade

    Mumbai: The rupee fell by 10 paise to 61.51 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to appreciation of the US currency overseas. Forex dealers attributed the domestic currency’s fall to the dollar’s gains against other global currencies and a lower opening in the domestic equity market.
