After winning the T20I series against England, India is all set to start the ODI series against the Englishmen. The first ODI will be played today at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Although England has the home advantage in the series, India is high on confidence due to their victory in T20I series. The series is also a fight for the top spot in ODI rankings as a 3-0 win for India will provide them top rank in ODI team rankings, which is currently held by England.

Indian team is playing an ODI after a long gap as it last played an ODI during the finals of Nidahas Trophy where India defeated Bangladesh in March. After that, all Indian players were busy with Indian Premier League. India’s ODI series in England can be considered an important step towards preparing for 2019 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled in England and Wales. After winning the T20I series, India will eye to defeat England in ODIs as well under the captainship of Virat Kohli.

England is on the back-foot after losing the T20I series to India but is in good form and can outclass Indian team in ODIs. England defeated Australia in the previous ODI series and also achieved the highest team score in ODIs when they scored 481/6 in the third ODI against Australian team. Now, England will try to give a tough fight so as to avenge the loss of T20I and also to retain their top spot in ODI team rankings.
