Chennai: SriLankan Airlines has increased the frequency on Chennai-Colombo route by adding three more flights connecting the two destinations. The addition has taken the total number of flights between India and Sri Lanka to a total of 89 per week. “The additional frequencies operate from August 16 onwards – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The addition of flights brings the total flights between Sri Lanka and India to 89 flights per week”, Sri Lanka’s national carrier said in a statement.
The purpose of adding these flights was in the backdrop of Chennai becoming one of the fastest growing market for Sri Lankan Airlines. The addition of frequencies was to utilise the increasing passenger traffic. “Last year, we had over 2.25 lakh arrivals on SriLankan Airlines from Chennai to Colombo. It is certain that Chennai is our fastest growing market in southern India,” SriLankan Airlines Regional Manager for India, Lalith De Silva said. “We see the market as a growing and crucial business hub for multi-nationals,” he added.
